What a disgusting "family life" John McCain had...abandoning his wife and going for the gusto...
You sound very jealous of the Obamas.
Go, commiserate with Newt Gingrich, with his three divorces and gold-digging his first wife on her deathbed, and his innumerable adulteries.
Begone! You have no power here!

What you said, buddy.
Here's why the truth must intrude even on the day of a loved one's passing:
First of all, you DO say the truth about a loved one at the wake. Unless you are the kind of family who lives in denial.
And who in the new media will come into this thread with a first-hand reminiscence about how tireless the man was about exacting the truth when the powerful were more than anything, dealing in lies and secrecy?
No one can come here with a first hand account because this Washington insider did not deign to have the insurgents on to critique the failings of his industry.
Let's not get into an outrage pissing contest and act like the bar that Russert set in his life should be set there permanently out of respect for his early passing.
Someone needs to do his job as well, and better. Anyone who says that's offensive is only making it harder for this country to get at the truth and defend our rights as citizens to be informed and not fooled.

I know I don't want to die at work.
With respect, it's too bad that there isn't a huge contingent of major bloggers like kos, Josh, Amato and everyone from the new media who could recount personal encounters with him, and the times they shared seeking the truth in a time that was so crucial for the country.
Maybe that would have happened in years to come if he had lived.

Haddaya like it, haddaya like it?More, more, more
Haddaya like it,
haddaya like your love?Perfect song to learn the electric slide to. That will be useful at wedding receptions, too. (snort).

And in any case, the whole kit and caboodle of conservaklan cats in my hat have been so totally and without exception wrong...
explain to me again why any of them get another chance to be elected or put on some pundit panel or be paid shills for the Republicans? How many turns do they get to be totally wrong?
"Fair and balanced" seems to mean Republicans get to be wrong as many times as Democrats are right, and still have a right to rule from a minority position?

Ding, ding, ding, al75 and carsick...you HAVE the correct answer.
Al Gore drafted by Democrats? That just ensures twelve straight months of corporate media interviews about how he can possible run the war on terror after accepting a peace prize? That would be the number one topic, and Trudy Giuliani and Gropinator Schwarzenegger would laugh at him from the RNC podium...and Chris Matthews would lisp out that the Democrats managed to find the one gayer candidate in the world than Larry Craig.
Wish I had a dime for everytime all of the above will be said...just today. I'd be rich in 24 hours.

Beautifully said, and very much more serious than any of Matt Bai's responses have been -- mainly he accuses any critic of his book of never having read it.
If it were me, I would have said the same as this post but in a much less forgiving way -- like so many in the corporate media, Matt Bai thinks that if he didn't see it or deem it worthy of having insider shmooze with, it didn't happen, didn't exist or was beneath comment.
That's the reason why he's clueless and as you say, reporting -- blinkered at that -- on a teeny window that has already passed. I'd keep it on my shelf, sure...the shelf that says "slag heap of history."
