Synchrocity
This is actually both a political shot across the bow for Coffman who is running for Tancredo's House Seat and a legal standing that if things continue---specifically the absence of authentic governance, the Governor will take legal action or seek legal standing in court against his Secretary of State.
This again has political implications for JeffCo, Arapahoe and Douglas Counties as they vote on their next Congressman. If Coffman is so partisan to openly seek to systematically disenfranchise certain individuals or groups because of party politics than everyone should know who they are electing.
And imagine the fireworks in the national press going off if the Governor has to step in and protect voters because of a clerical interpretation or error and further disinformation?

I think there are many level of reasons:
McCain is embarrassed to the degree a national politician who apologized for Keating 5 and then became the deregulator, who sought to reform campaign finance and then when fully engaged in a campaign sought not to follow his own law, the same person who railed against religious right after 2000's primary smear then went and sought to law in bed with them this time around, shall I continue?
No McCain is not embarrassed he is being tactical but not strategic, oh that is what a fighter pilot is, tactical----he knows that he cannot actually mouth the smear in public, or have his running mate on the same stage.
It is a tactic that is not working, and their playbook like the movie Jaws is running out of options, I think they are now going to lower a shark cage in the water and stick a 25 foot shark with a needle. That will work.
A campaign needs four things, a message (what is McCain, elect me?), money (cash to a degree they got but not enough), organization (well I know CO's and it ain't much), and credibility....well that they are missing.

I have to concur and add significantly from the local level. I have posted in my blog here the ground game as it goes forward. The Obama campaign is basically writing a new book on this developing science where they have literally tens of thousands of active volunteers contacting targeted voters in large quantities. They believe this organization will move the old bar as much as 10%, new voter registration is way up even in deep Red El Paso County.
The dynamics for CO swinging big blue because of it is an emigration state....where daily growth from more liberal and diverse states like CA, IL, MA, DC, MI, OH, WI, MN, OR and WA have consistently come in as technology firms proliferate over the last ten years. This is changing the landscape where registered Independents are overtaking older Republicans.
I see CO going Obama between 53-57% or about what Ritter did when he was elected but in much bigger numbers. The biggest deal now is that Obama on the ground is getting their supporters to vote by mail and avoid a 45 minute ballot that will make lines as long as 4 hours. This can only be done one voter on the ground.
I also have seen the same thing in VA and NC. I think these three states will go for Obama and surprise the old guard breaching the old GOP walls. FL will also be close but with deep voter reg problems again.
That said Obama will keep close in WI, MN and win strong in IA. In NM the GOP is about to go the route of ILL as their party is so corrupt and so off its feet because of the US Attorney that it will go blue with Udall and a Congressman. Nevada might break the bank where the Dems have registered 300000 new voters.
The path is not just 270 but possibly 320 or more.

You think this is funny but there is real discussion among political scientists and human rights organizations that sometime in the next Administration the US will be faced with the choice:
Take care of your rogue administration allegations of War Crimes, Human Rights Crimes internally or the World Community will indict and force the US to deliver them to the Hague.
Q: What will be the US Nationalism reaction domestically? Will it be the flash point of an open cultural war?
Q: Would we have to deliver them to the World Court because we cannot do it ourselves.
This is no small matter: My hope is that Obama is as pragmatic as he purports to be:
Appoint Fitzgerald Attorney General----instruct him to put together a new Untouchable's legal team to go out and flush out the neo-fascists and let the investigation go where it goes---use the MOB process....get small fish to give up big fish....person by person and if it leads to a cabal of the Federalist Society----Rove Republican Movement of Permanent Majority---Cheney and his safe and ultimately to the legacy of Prescott Bush and Herbert Walker in Texas---so be it. Make it public, make it unmistakable so we can go back to basic American Ideals and not Blowback Nazism.

Robert:
There is an old saying in the entrepreneurial and equity game: Got to have skin in the game. When I was raising capital for a venture that was the big question the investors wanted to know. I think also that each of the directors, exec's of any firm that is receiving $$ put up their all their homes (including primary houses) as collateral.
That plus their options and their PAC's, influence and retirement plans....They want to come out whole and so should the US taxpayer.

There is even more data that has been drilled in Colorado Springs.
The math is showing that Obama is in position of carrying above 45% even 47% in what is considered the 16th most conservative district in the land. This would mean a win statewide between 55-58% if everything else remained the same.
As for the other math I am aware that Ohio is really falling Obama's way fast in this ratio of Independent voters and Democrats. The same is holding true in WI and NH.
If I had the math right with OH, CO, NH it puts Obama 276 without NV, MI, VA, FL, MO
I also think this week will be a turning point on the airwaves where McCain on the View is being seen through as a lying liar or as Josh calls him a serial liar.
Interestingly his entire campaign is composed of character and he is making a total fool of himself....as my father says (he just a few years older) and old story teller who doesn't even know what time it is let alone what he is talking about. This coming from a former GOP Judge.

Sometimes traps simply need longer to spring. They are giving Palin all the oppty to come forward. Essentially the Brother-in-law and State Police Chief have come forward to the press and told their stories, the emails are released so what if she came forward and said in a Checkers like speech....my brother-in-law tazored my nephew....I thought it was so grievousness to fire him....I was wrong....
But now as she goes around stonewalling and going back on the promise to her citizens of AK then a narrative can be made that she is no different than what is in DC now with Bush and Cheney.....Thus the trap.....That McCain knew and he still chose her....more of the same....
It is the independents and unaffiliated that is the audience....
Let her go and hide for a few weeks and then paint her in the old pol corner who simply is wearing lipstick (her words not mine)

Two points and something one must note:
A) There is always a backlash inferiority complex by those who live in small towns or states not the center of commerce. I grew up in Illinois near Chicago and then moved to small town WI that was becoming an exurban part of the Chicago Metro Area. Small town inferiority was rampant and even open contempt for the big city, the money the knowledge the lifestyle. It is also what Nixonland's author wrote describing Nixon's Orthogonians, the non elites who are smitten.
B) It is a defense shield how dare you criticize McCain for picking me a woman and small town girl because if you critisize me for my life than you undercut McCain's decision and the legitimacy of their ticket....period.
The pushback is from the party as a whole. She will try to do this indignant posture with the press even with Schaeffer or others....but I doubt that she gets in those chairs...they will do a Fox bit and some local news bits....but we will have to wait for Biden's humor to indict her as WTF?

Privately it was relayed to me from a personal friend of Barack Obama that he said in retrospect he now knew why Clinton lost the primary fight and it was about their entire culture of the campaign upon bringing in some of their staff.
Like or not the Clinton culture were only by degree better than the Rove GOP culture that has completely emasculated the national political scene. They lack a grounding of conscience, which is one of the big undertow currents running through the American political movement. Penn's memo's show serious even adjunct disregard for political ethos outside of winning at any cost. Clinton's team was by definition self-serving, condescending, personally entitled, and arrogant to a losing degree.
The thing is at least they vetted Obama before the GOP attacks did and basically have made Obama's support immune to the attack.

Go to the Cook Report: Cook is generous but he has 10 solidly Dem to 12 solidly Rep.....then 2 each likely for each party....meaning 12-14....then the divide comes
Rep have 2 leaning (Oregon in play and Maine probably a lock for Collins) while the Dems have one leaning, LA and Landrieu as the incumbent.
The gains will be where Cook has the toss ups....
CO, this should go Udall's way
MN, incumbent Coleman only has a 50% poll...could we see MN elect another complete political novice in Franken? I say yes.
NM, Domenici is scandal ridden with the US Attny...a purple state that is almost blue...say good bye Pete.
NH, Sununu and the old party name and loyalist is only at 51% REFORM REFORM!
ALASKA, talking about scandal and reform....got a bridge to nowhere Ted?This is outside the wild card possibles of NC and Ms. Dole going down, or the replacement to Hagel or ID's "I am not Gay" Senator Craig.
The thing is the Dem's conceivably could pick up between 6-8 Senate seats and if the landscape changes or Obama forges in a Tsunami 8-10.
But understand that now they have 51-49 with Lieberman who is not really a Democrat anymore. Picking up 6 seats puts them at 56-44 with Joe going to the Red-Side permanently, 8 is 58-42 making things dangerous for the GOP.
The thing is whether the Dem's pick up another 30 plus seats in the Congres.....going above 260 where the GOP falls to below 170 is almost impossible to put in a monkey wretch in the process.
